THE BEST SCENTED CANDLES FOR AUTUMN

Updated: Feb 19, 2024

It's not only chunky knits, cosy socks and pumpkin spice lattes that signify autumn is upon us... the flickering flame of a scented candle is quintessentially autumnal and helps conjure up those picture perfect scenes where log fires roar and steaming cups of chocolate are sipped while crisp leaves fall gently outside the window...

Changing the scent in your home has such an immediate impact on the ambience of a space and there's no better way to welcome autumn than by lighting a scented candle and letting it envelop you in a warm, inviting aroma. So, in honour of the best time of the year (yeah, I said it), here are my favourite scented candles to see you through this cosy season...

No. 01 | Orchard Candle Co Havana Cuban Oak & Tobacco

One of my go-to candles at the moment is the Havana Cuban Tobacco & Oak candle from Orchard Candle Co. Imagine fine Cuban cigars mixed with expensive men's cologne, worn leather and antique books... it's spicy and warm and perfect for cosy nights in binge-watching the latest Netflix series.

Orchard Candle Co is also a small independent business and I'm all for supporting the little guys... their Lemongrass & Ginger fragrance is also a firm favourite of mine.

No. 02 | The White Company Autumn

This deliciously fruity fragrance is the blend of crisp pear, quince and apricot alongside warming amber and musk and according to The White Company themselves, "is inspired by afternoons spent picking fruits from the orchard beneath the dappled sunlight". Now, I can't say that's a regular activity for me (I wish it was) but I love the candle nonetheless. It offers a crisp, fruity fragrance which is lighter than a lot of other seasonal scents.

My only complaint is that the jar doesn't look very autumnal but I guess that's just TWC's minimalist vibe isn't it?

No. 03 | The Kindred Folk Dark Honey & Tobacco

Described as an 'indulgent blend of tobacco blossom grounded by a base of rich honey with notes of amber and tonka'... this beauty of a candle from small Scottish business, The Kindred Folk, is a sweater-weather concoction that’s equal parts earthy, spicy and sophisticated.

It reminds me of sitting around a toasty fireplace in a cosy library with a warming drink in hand - a truly comforting scent that is worthy of burning all year round!

No. 04 | Jo Loves Amber Lime & Bergamot

Presented in a stylish hand blown tortoiseshell glass jar, this newly launched fragrance from the iconic perfume brand, Jo Loves, is warm and inviting.

With notes of patchouli, lime, amber, cedarwood, suede and bergamot, this candle is as cosy and woodsy as it looks but also a little uplifting thanks to the citrus injection.

At £55, the price tag is not as inviting but the scent really does fill the room and lingers for hours... plus it looks pretty!

No. 05 | The White Company Oakmoss

As you may have gathered by now, I love a masculine, woodsy scent for our home and Oakmoss by The White Company is no exception to the rule.

Featuring earthy notes of oakmoss, warming amber, sandalwood and soft leather, this candle brings back childhood memories for me of crisp autumn walks collecting conkers and homemade cocoa in front of the fire. It's nostalgic and comforting, slightly smoky and a firm favourite in the Pavlou household!
