SMALL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: TROVE PRINTS

As a social media 'content creator', I'm regularly contacted by companies with the offer of gifted products and it's actually something I take really seriously. I love to support a small business in particular and I only accept gifted items that I would genuinely purchase myself and happily give space to in our home.

Small vintage art business, Trove Prints, were one such company but believe me... it only took a matter of minutes for me to decide whether to work with them or not! That was last year and today I am still a customer of theirs, I have numerous pieces of their art in our home and have my eye on more...

Today, I'm bringing you a Q&A with the creative brains behind Trove Prints, Tom & Sophie. Read on for a little insight into their business and an exclusive discount code.

My home office featuring Trove's Woman Reading IV

Q. | How did you start the business? When, why, and what did you do before Trove?

A. | We started Trove in the spring of 2022 after struggling to find vintage prints for our own home that matched our style and budget. We have backgrounds in photography, digital image editing and printing, so put these skills to use by restoring and printing some of our favourite vintage pieces.

We were really pleased with the results, so decided to set up an Etsy shop supplying affordable vintage art and Trove was born! We launched our own website at the beginning of 2023 and now have over 300 vintage pieces in our ever-growing collection.

Q. | How do you choose your prints? Do you pick imagery that you personally enjoy or that you think will appeal to others?

A. | We started out by selecting pieces that we personally enjoyed and slowly began to learn more about our customers preferences as the business grew. We often select pieces that we would be happy to display in our own home, but also try to choose from a wide range of categories that we feel would work equally well in various different interior styles. It’s a bit of a mix of both!

Q. | Do you print all your artwork yourselves?

A. | Yes, we do. We take great care over the quality of our prints and each one is made to order by us in our home studio, using archival-quality paper and premium inks. We only ever send out prints that we’d be happy to display in our own home and offer a no-fuss 30-day return policy if our customers are not 100% satisfied with their purchase.

Q. | What are your plans for the business moving forward? Frames maybe?

A. | Our main focus at this stage is to continue growing our collection by consistently sourcing and restoring beautiful vintage pieces. We’ve talked about offering frames but decided that it would be too much for us to take on just at the moment, so perhaps that’s something for the future. We’d rather do one thing really well, so all of our energy is currently focused on providing an affordable selection of prints that are of the highest quality we can offer.

"Where possible, we’d always encourage our customers to use second-hand frames and offer over a dozen print sizes based upon standard frame dimensions. For those awkward-sized vintage frames (we’ve picked up several of these ourselves!), we also offer a custom print size service at no additional cost - just let us know the dimensions you need and we’ll do our best to print it for you."

Q. | Anything else you'd like to share with us?

A. | We’re a very small business—it’s just the two of us—and sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Our paper is sourced from European mills with third-party certifications which ensures they implement proper environmental management practices and by using archival-quality paper and inks, our prints are designed to last over 80 years. All of our packaging is eco-friendly and all our UK deliveries are made by Royal Mail, who have the lowest reported carbon emissions per parcel of any major UK delivery company.

Thanks so much to Tom and Sophie for answering my questions... I do hope you'll take a little look at Trove's collection of beautiful vintage art (if you haven't already) and hopefully find something you like. If you do, please feel free to use my exclusive discount code PAVLOU15 for 15% off everything on their beautiful website (valid until 31st December 2023).
