FIVE OF THE BEST CANDLES FOR COSY SEASON

Updated: Oct 10

It's not only chunky knits, cosy socks and steaming cups of hot chocolate that signify autumn is upon us... the flickering flame of a scented candle is quintessentially autumnal.

Personally, I'm a year-round candle burner and love nothing more than hunkering down with a blanket and a seasonal scent. There's just something so comforting about a flickering flame, it feels nostalgic and instantly boosts my mood. Scented candles are the ultimate self-care treat and one of life's little pleasures but if you're not feeling the cosy vibes just yet, here are a few of my autumn/winter favourites to get you started...

No. 01 | The White Company, Winter

I'm not usually one for classic winter fragrance combinations, in fact I actively avoid them because they always smell a bit sickly and synthetic to me (pumpkin spice, I'm looking at you!). I appreciate I'm very late to the party on this one but one sniff of the Winter scent by The White Company and I have to say, I'm a convert.

This best-selling home fragrance was originally created a whopping 21 years ago by The White Company founder and it's still going strong with a slight cult status so I guess that tells you something. It's warm and spicy with a burst of zesty orange - quite simply, Christmas in a candle!

No. 02 | NEOM Wellbeing, Perfect Peace

Another candle that's possibly more winter than autumn but there are no rules guys... I first discovered this scent from NEOM last year when I purchased the diffuser oil and it's since been launched in a limited edition candle which I couldn't be happier about!

Infused with 25 essential oils including fresh pine, myrrh and zesty lime, it gives me all the wrapped-up winter walk vibes. Think crunchy leaves underfoot, crisp head-clearing air and the smell of pine trees surrounding you - it's an uplifting seasonal scent and the perfect mood booster.

No. 03 | Marks & Spencer, Restore

Part of the popular Apothecary range at M&S, the Restore candle is a great budget friendly option for every day burning. It features notes of cedarwood, geranium, lavender and eucalyptus which together create a calming atmosphere.

I think I would file this candle under 'background burners'... in other words, it's not necessarily one I would light for a special occasion but it's great for creating a fabulous background scent in your home. It also comes in a refillable jar and at just £8 for the initial candle then £6 per refill, it's a no brainer!

No. 04 | Ivy & Willow Botanicals, Spa Day

I've recommended this particular candle before and will continue to do so because it's a firm favourite in the Pavlou household.

Available from small independent business, Ivy & Willow Botanicals, it's the perfect spirit lifter... in fact, it's the candle equivalent of a bracing walk to blow away the cobwebs!

No. 05 | The White Company, Fir Tree

A new find for me... Fir Tree from The White Company is (as the name suggests) reminiscent of a frosty winter walk in the forest, the kind of walk when the cold air nips at your face and lingers after every breath you take.

With fragrance notes of soothing eucalyptus, fresh pine, earthy moss and warming cedar, this beauty is as woodsy as it sounds... it smells of Christmas trees, greenery and cold winter mornings in the countryside.
