It's my favourite time of the year and as we head into Autumn/Winter 2023, design trends are (as ever) looking towards creating a cosy and inviting home for friends and family to gather and relax together.
Warm, earthy colours that reflect the changing environment around us, natural textures and classic heritage patterns are key in achieving this - think muted spice colours, mixed wood tones and classic checks. However, according to design experts there are also a few new trends making an appearance this year including a retro revival encompassing bold patterns and pops of colour.
I should point out that just because 'trends' exist, it doesn't mean we should all immediately grab a paintbrush and start redesigning our homes for the season. I'm a big believer that when decorating or styling for any season, the goal should be to bring together a curated mix of pieces that reflect you, your lifestyle and what you love.
However, if you're interested in the design trends... I've outlined some the main themes below which might give you some inspiration for your own homes.
No. 01 | 70's Revival
Don't worry, avocado bathroom suites are not making a comeback... phew! The reimagined 70's aesthetic is more about the colour palettes of the era, the relaxed and eclectic styling, natural materials, geometric shapes and floral patterns.
No. 02 | Pink
Not sure how I feel about this one because in general, I am not a pink fan but the march towards pink interiors has no doubt been accelerated thanks to the popularity of the Barbie movie. In reality though, the pink influences are thankfully far more moderate - think muted putty and sun-baked reddish pink which pair nicely with the browns and rusts of the season.
No. 03 | Considered Cosiness
Sounds obvious for the colder months right? The general vibe is making your home feel cosy, creating a place to hibernate away from the outside world. Tactile furnishings, ambient lighting, beds layered with plenty of throws, boucle, velvet and sheepskin rugs are all on the agenda this season.

No. 04 | Pattern
This autumn, classic patterns reign supreme from the ever popular stripe to more exuberant florals which I am absolutely here for! If you've seen my house on Instagram, you will know that I'm a huge fan of William Morris. Classic designs like his are being transformed with new colour combinations and textures and experts have predicted a blend between old and new with many contemporary interpretations of traditional prints and patterns.
