5 WAYS TO TRANSITION YOUR HOME FOR AUTUMN

As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, the heating creeps on and Saturday nights out become Saturday nights in clutching a cuppa (or Prosecco in my case!) in front of Strictly. And you know what? I am 100% here for it... just pass me a hot water bottle and a cosy blanket and I'm ready to hibernate!

When it comes to décor, I'm not personally a huge fan of completely transforming the home seasonally - each to their own - but I do enjoy making a few tweaks and changing up some accessories to help create a cuddled-up atmosphere. These changes don't need to be particularly time consuming or expensive so let me share five ways to transition your home for the autumn season which I'll be adopting in our home...

No. 01 | Add layers

Simple right? You can easily infuse your home with the essence of autumn by adding layers - think cushions, blankets, quilts, rugs - anything that cosies up a space. Using tactile textures works well so maybe consider introducing a mix of wool and faux fur blankets, a sisal rug, classic plaid weave cushions... I personally love a faux sheepskin draped over a chair, it immediately creates an inviting retreat, somewhere to curl up with a good book and a hazelnut latte.

No. 02 | Embrace warmer tones

Consider adding a few warmer tones to make your home feel more season specific. This doesn't have to be the usual suspects - rustic browns, mustard yellows and deep berry shades - it can simply be a warmer tone of your existing scheme. If you follow @thepavlouhome on Instagram, you'll know that our bedrooms are light, airy and floral so a deep autumnal colour palette wouldn't work and it's important to remember, you're decorating for you... not the gram! Instead, I've simply switched out the white bedspread in our master for a stone shade, added layers with blankets and I might throw a faux fur rug beside the bed... done!

However, if you're not adverse to adding some seasonal colour to your home, look towards the palette of the changing environment around us and follow nature's lead.

No. 03 | Stock up on seasonal scents

Scents can be a game-changer when evoking the feeling of autumn in your home however, I'm not suggesting you burn pumpkin spice candles from dawn 'til dusk. If that's your bag then go for it but there are plenty of other warming fragrances that go hand in hand with this time of year. Some of my favourites are ginger, cedarwood, pomegranate, amber, oak and tobacco. Stay with me on the last one, sounds a little odd I know but one of my go-to candles at the moment is the Havana Cuban Tobacco & Oak candle from Orchard Candles. Imagine fine Cuban cigars mixed with expensive men's cologne, worn leather and antique books... it's spicy and warm and perfect for cosy nights in.

Another home fragrance that I love and that gives me all the autumnal feels is Amber from The White Company. It contains warming notes of amber, layered with aromatic ginger and earthy cedar - a comforting scent to accompany those longer evenings.

No. 04 | Switch up accessories

Switching up the décor on your shelves, mantelpiece or coffee table is another easy way to make your home feel refreshed for the season ahead. Something as simple as changing the colour of a candle or popping a few dried seed pods in a bowl can immediately embody the essence of the cooler months. And if you really want to go all out, you can always add pumpkins!

No. 05 | Bring in seasonal flowers & foliage

Flowers and foliage are an easy way to bring the colours and textures of the season into your home. If you can gather from your own garden then lucky you - if not, why not pop your wellies on and go foraging (obviously check it's not private land before you go snaffling twigs and branches!).

If you don't fancy bringing the literal outdoors in, there are some fabulous faux botanicals to choose from instead. For a long time, I was a bit of a faux flower snob but my goodness there are so many amazingly realistic versions available now, I've done a complete 180!

The Suffolk Nest and Abigail Ahern are my go-to brands for all things faux. Both have a wide range of faux and dried stems influenced by the beautiful British countryside which enables you to curate your own arrangement to suit your home.
